Our beloved Junior League of Lafayette home and headquarters was built in 2003 and is located in River Ranch, just down the road from DeGaulle Square. The facility provides flexible office and storage space for our members to use as their committees and programs see fit. Two conference rooms are equipped with technology for hosting in-person and virtual meetings. Our Headquarters Manager Theresa Landry and Accounting Manager Monique Gideon also work out of our building.
While the outside was painted in 2011, the inside of headquarters had not been renovated or remodeled since the purchase of the building. Over the course of several years and thoughtful feedback from our Project Evaluation and Planning (PEP) meetings, our leadership made a decision to allocate funds for a full renovation. Our current President-Elect Monica Zuschlag was chosen as chair of the Headquarter Renovations Ad Hoc Committee. Monica was able to work with a team of Junior League of Lafayette Sustainers, who were instrumental in the creation of headquarters in 2003, to keep the history and memorabilia preserved during the renovations.
Some of the biggest improvements to the building include new flooring on the 2nd and 3rd floors, which were in-kind donations from Doug Ashy Building Materials. When asked what her favorite improvement is, Monica stated that she loves the new 2nd floor storage area, which features organizational tools painstakingly and beautifully labeled by Monique Gideon. Monica says, “It’s now a clean, beautiful space that our members want to work in!”
Headquarters was also fitted with new video doorbells for added security, as well as televisions and audio/visual equipment, all partially donated by Acadian Total Security. The added technology has come in especially handy during the pandemic with virtual meetings taking precedence and quality streaming being a necessity.
Many members and friends helped make our newly renovated headquarters building shine and sparkle. Sustainer Brianne Jenkins lent expertise in interior design, and Sustainer Jenny Gautreaux helped design and organize the storage spaces to better fit the League’s current needs. Sustainers Judy Mahtook, Marilyn Lee, and Jeigh Stipe were instrumental in the creation of headquarters in 2003 and helped greatly with the renovations. Headquarters Manager Theresa Landry and Active Members Kimmie Cormier, Megan Andrus, Melanie Fowler, Angela Cring, Stacie Belle, Cathy LaGrange, and Jennifer Trapp all contributed time and energy to making sure the renovation process ran smoothly.
It’s through these enhancements that we are able to better organize our resources, have productive meetings, and in turn, make our Mission a reality in the community. We welcome those who have a vested interest in Junior League of Lafayette to stop by and visit our newly improved space!
