Opportunity Knocks Volunteers Revitalize School Parking Lot at Day of Action

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” – Winston S. Churchill.

Junior League of Lafayette joined several organizations in giving back to the Lafayette community by participating in United Way of Acadiana’s annual Day of Action held last month.

With over 200 volunteers working together from 11 different organizations, United Way of

Acadiana partnered with Parish Proud and Love Our Schools to revitalize two amazing schools in our community, Carencro High and J.W. Faulk Elementary.

Through Junior League of Lafayette’s Opportunity Knocks program, Members and volunteers added bright yellow lines and bus lanes to the bare parking lot at J.W. Faulk Elementary. Opportunity Knocks deploys trained volunteers to fulfill immediate community project needs as they arise, broadening the League’s community outreach.

“Volunteering during Day of Action 2022 was a great feeling to engage with Junior League of

Lafayette Members, their families, and other community groups and local businesses,” said

Ayesha K. Martin, Junior League of Lafayette Member and Community Council Vice President. “We are contributing to the greater good of the community we serve and proud to be making a difference.”

Junior League of Lafayette friends and families also supported United Way’s service day project through the photo contest on social media, making Junior League of Lafayette the first place winner for the second year in a row.

It is an honor to act as a force for good alongside 10 other wonderful organizations and provide much needed upgrades the school community can enjoy when class is back in session this fall. The League looks forward to being a part of United Way of Acadiana’s Day of Action again next year.
