Welcome to the new Petit Potpourri

Updated: Dec 9, 2021

Welcome to the new Petit Potpourri! We are introducing a new blog format for our favorite Junior League of Lafayette publication. Here you will find information about League events, activities in our community, and related topics of interest. We will feature articles written by our very own members, and we will also include guest bloggers.

Since our inception in 1957, Junior League of Lafayette has been committed to improving our community through trained volunteers. We started as a group of seventeen civic-minded women with a vision to affect positive change in the community. Our membership has now grown to over 600 women from diverse backgrounds, and we have been instrumental in improving our community. Throughout our history, we have documented our work in our publication Petit Potpourri.

The Petit Potpourri, or commonly known as the Petit, has a rich history in our League. In 1962, it was agreed upon that we should have a newsletter. Helen Bailey, President 1962-1963, was the first Editor and named it Potpourri. One of the most popular sections of the newsletter was the member recipes. This collection of recipes went on to inspire our first cookbook “Talk About Good!” Over the years, Potpourri slowly increased in number of pages to a monthly magazine-style publication, and eventually to a color publication. The name was changed to Petit Potpourri and continued to inform not only members, but also community partners and sponsors about the fabulous programs we provide to our community.

It is so exciting to introduce this new blog during the holiday season. In October, we announced our grant recipients and have already started working with many partners in the community. These projects bring to the forefront all that is important in our League: members affecting change in our community. Our members are the heart and soul of our League. They are intelligent, talented, and dedicated women working together for the betterment of our community. Their accomplishments inspire me every day.

As we come to the end of the calendar year, we are reminded of all that we are thankful for: our sponsors, partners, and members.

We hope you will enjoy this new format and visit often. Thank you to all our members who have worked tirelessly through the years to document our history in the Petit.

Welcome to the digital world, Petit Potpourri! You’ve come a long way, chѐr!
